(Video) Leisure Washroom Refurbishment for Center Parcs Sports Plaza

Project overview

When Center Parcs Longleat set out to raise the standard of its Sports Plaza amenities, it engaged Focus Washrooms to deliver high-quality, durable, accessible washrooms aligned with its resort brand. This case study highlights how we reimagined the male and female washrooms as modern, long-lasting facilities that enhance guest experience and operational performance.

The brief

Center Parcs required a full-scale upgrade of their male and female washrooms in the Sports Plaza, addressing several key constraints:

  • High footfall & durability requirements - facilities must withstand intensive use

  • User-diversified needs - male space with cubicles and urinals; female with multiple cubicles

  • Accessibility & inclusivity - ambulant cubicle with outward opening door & grab rails

  • Family friendly design - child-height basins included

  • Aesthetic coherence - finishes must reflect the resort’s visual identity

  • Operational disruption minimised - project executed in an active site

The solution

Strip-out & reconfiguration

A full strip-out was done: partitions, ceilings, mechanical and electrical, plumbing, sanitaryware, and finishes were removed. Substrates and surfaces were made good. New stud partitions and service ducts were installed to support the revised layouts.

Premium cubicles & duct panelling

We installed solid grade laminate cubicles and duct panelling from Trovex Washrooms, choosing a palette of Woodland Walnut and Elephant Grey for a refined yet robust visual tone. In the male area, we included privacy screens and duct panelling behind urinals; in the both washrooms, full duct panelling behind WC runs.

Sanitaryware, accessibility & family features

  • Male washroom - 2 back-to-wall WCs, 3 urinals, 3 basins (one child-height)

  • Female washroom - 5 back-to-wall WCs, 5 basins (one child-height)

  • In each washroom: 1 ambulant / accessible cubicle, outward-opening door, full grab rails

  • Hygienic fittings, sensor taps, robust wall/floor finishes

Finishes and building Services

  • Porcelanosa porcelain tiles: Boggeta Caliza (walls) and Nebraska Noir (floor)

  • Suspended ceiling grid (600×600)

  • LED lighting, PIR sensors, and reconnected extract ventilation

  • Mirrors, dispensers and hand dryers

Project management & handover

A four-week programme was carefully sequenced to coordinate M&E, tiling, partitions and finishing. Testing, commissioning, snagging and client walkthrough were integral to handover.

Outcome

  • Balanced capacity & flow - male with efficient urinals and female with adequate cubicles

  • High durability - Use of solid grade laminate and porcelain finishes tailored for high-use leisure settings

  • Accessibility guaranteed - Fully compliant ambulant cubicles with outward-opening doors

  • Family friendly - Child-height basins in both washrooms

  • Cohesive aesthetic - Colour palette that integrates with resort environment

  • Operational success - Completed on schedule, minimal disruption

Considering colours, textures and patterns

The design of leisure washrooms goes beyond functionality. At Center Parcs Longleat, particular care was taken to ensure the finishes aligned with the wider resort environment. By combining natural woodgrain laminates with neutral grey tones and durable porcelain tiles, the washrooms now complement the Sports Plaza’s aesthetic while maintaining ease of cleaning and long-term durability.

Selecting colours and textures that reflect their surroundings ensures the facilities feel integrated into the resort experience, enhancing comfort for guests while reinforcing the premium quality expected at Center Parcs.
