Stunningly located in the heart of East Sussex, this prestigious venue delivers world-class opera performances to over 150,000 visitors every single year. To match their renowned reputation, Focus Washrooms was appointed to deliver a complete refurbishment of their main visitor facilities.
The challenge: Managing intense peak traffic
With thousands of guests attending performances, the washrooms are naturally an area of exceptionally high traffic. The main operational challenge occurs during the short intervals between opera acts, where a massive volume of visitors needs to use the facilities in a very brief window of time.
The new washrooms needed to be incredibly robust, effortless for the facilities team to maintain and designed to reflect the prestigious, luxury surroundings expected by Glyndebourne’s clientele.
The design: Luxury aesthetics for high-end clientele
Our design team created a layout focused on smooth visitor flow and high-end visual appeal, ensuring the washrooms act as an extension of the premium auditorium experience.
Overcoming restrictive winter timescales
To ensure zero disruption to Glyndebourne’s strict performance programme, our works schedule was strategically planned to take place entirely during the winter break. Working within these tight winter timescales, our installation teams managed the logistics seamlessly to complete the project before the upcoming season commenced.
Balancing durability with prestige
The material palette was carefully selected to blend traditional character with contemporary luxury, creating a striking contrast within the historic building:
Total privacy cubicles: We specified bespoke full-height cubicles to offer guests complete privacy and security during busy intervals.
Contrasting finishes: The client selected stunning dark wood finishes for the cubicle doors, which contrast beautifully against the fresh white vanity units and the building's original red brick walls.
High-traffic robustness: Every surface and fixture was selected for its ability to withstand heavy, rapid use while maintaining an immaculate, premium appearance.
