Mothers room and baby changing room refurb at shopping centre

Overview

The management team at The Chimes in Uxbridge previously partnered with Focus Washrooms to refurbish the retail hub's main facilities. Recognising that premium, clean washrooms are essential for maintaining customer satisfaction and driving repeat footfall, they commissioned us to execute a complete transformation of their dedicated mothers room.

The challenge: Replacing an outdated layout

The existing mothers room was designed around an old swimming pool theme that felt cold, uninviting and unsightly. The client wanted a fresh, modern scheme to lift the feel of the room completely.

Crucially, the space needed to be welcoming to parents while providing absolute privacy within the feeding cubicles, which was a feature lacking in the original layout.

The design: Optimising space for young families

To achieve the welcoming atmosphere the client required, our design team reconfigured the layout to maximise every square metre of available space. The new, highly functional floor plan successfully accommodated a dedicated toilet area, two separate baby changing stations and two completely private feeding cubicles.

Overcoming design layout limitations

By restructuring the space, we replaced the cold, uninviting layout with an efficient floor plan. To elevate the aesthetic from cold to premium, we introduced large-format smart grey wall tiling paired with high-performance slip-resistant sheet vinyl flooring.

Balancing durability with comfort

Because shopping centre facilities experience heavy daily use, the material specification focused on maximum durability and effortless maintenance:

  • Total privacy cubicles: We installed full-height cubicles from the Trovex Privacy range. Manufactured from solid grade laminate (SGL), these robust systems eliminate gaps to ensure parents feel entirely safe, secure and private while caring for their children.

  • Premium vanity surfaces: The sink vanity tops and the integrated surfaces beneath the baby changing units were crafted from bespoke, non-porous Corian to deliver a luxury feel that is exceptionally easy to clean.

  • Touch-free hygiene: To maximise cleanliness, all sinks were fitted with sensor-operated touchless taps, complemented by touch-free toilet flushing mechanisms.

The result: A bright and welcoming transformation

The entire washroom transformation successfully replaced the uninviting environment with a high-end, functional space.

A standout design feature of this refurbishment was the installation of a bespoke Trovex Gallery wall cladding system. Featuring a cute, custom-designed woodland scene, this hygienic and impact-resistant cladding provided a cost-effective way to instantly brighten the room and create a calming environment for families.

The refurbishment looks great and many thanks to all involved on a successful project
