Primary school washroom refurb with child friendly designs

Overview

This case study explores the transformative refurbishment undertaken by Focus Washrooms at Sir John Heron Primary School. The project spotlighted the installation of the specialised Trovex Junior cubicle system and the innovative Trovex Smarttrough, completely enhancing the functionality and aesthetics of the school washrooms. The finished design successfully promotes hygiene and imagination through engaging, durable elements tailored for young learners.

The challenge: Balancing child-friendly design with commercial durability

The need for a washroom renovation at Sir John Heron Primary School arose from the desire to create a space that was child-friendly yet robust enough to endure the relentless daily demands of an active school environment.

The primary challenge was to design a layout that could withstand high-traffic school use while fostering a welcoming atmosphere that encourages children to practice proper hygiene. Additionally, the facilities needed to be inviting and captivating to young minds, turning a routine school bathroom visit into a positive and educational experience.

The design: Child-centric layouts and imaginative themes

Focus Washrooms addressed these challenges by specifying a vibrant, highly functional design centred around durability and interactive learning themes.

Overcoming high-traffic demands

To ensure the new facilities could cope with the heavy footfall of a busy primary school, we integrated robust, seamless solutions. The entire refurbishment was planned meticulously and carried out with minimal disruption to the school's daily teaching activities, with our team working closely alongside the school administration to align the physical build with their educational vision.

Balancing durability with imagination

To deliver an engaging user experience that can easily withstand daily school use, we selected specialised, tried-and-tested educational products:

  • Sense of privacy and security: the Trovex Junior cubicle system was installed, chosen specifically for its robust construction, low-height doors that allow safe supervision and vibrant, child-centric aesthetics.

  • Design features for hygiene: the Trovex Smarttrough wash station was incorporated to facilitate effective, clean handwashing among multiple pupils at the same time.

  • Expert thematic integration: an underwater motif was used across the room, enhanced by the strategic addition of a custom mirror to elevate the overall ambiance and captivate young minds.

The result: A vibrant and educational transformation

Post-refurbishment, the washroom has been completely transformed from a basic utility space into a vibrant, hygienic environment that genuinely excites and engages the students.

By combining the structural strength of the Trovex range with an imaginative underwater theme, the school successfully achieved its goal of encouraging proper hand hygiene. The project stands as a premier example of how modern school washroom design can be both incredibly tough and visually stimulating for young children.
